Aloha and Mahalo for having a look at my images and finding out who Mike Rogers is.
I'm an English/Irish, Spanish/French Corsican born and raised in Hawaii. During my High School years I was fortunate to live in Tokyo Japan and picked up photography. I was and still are very intrested in Sports. I started Surfing at age ten, Track and Field started in Middle School ( I loved the Hurdles...Gold Medals in the 400 Yard dash in 1964 at Jr AAU State Meet and in High Hurdles my Junior and Senior years), and all the while still surfing anytime I got near the ocean. While in Japan, I discovered that there were pretty good waves to surf there and how much I loved taking photographs of the surf when I wasn't out surfing them. What better place to be as Nikon and Canon came out with SLR Cameras. I honed my photographic skills at the San Francisco Art Institute in the late sixties....from there I spent time in Texas and Florida doing my duty in the USAF. Thought it was ironic that the Air Force sent a surfer from Hawaii to Florida for Military Duty....Yep still found time to surf and shoot! After Florida I made my way back to Hawaii only to get married and move to Maryland...that didn't work and I moved back to Hawaii to surf and continue with my love of Surfing and the honor of documenting the Hawaiian Surf and surrounding wonders of these magic Islands.
So what do I do...
I shoot alot of surfing action shots of anyone who's surfing in front of my lens, then I post the the images on my web-site. I make it a point to shoot everyone so that they may get a photo of themselves surfing. I do very well with the visiting surf crowd as I take the time to introduce myself and follow through with their surf images and give them a easy means to accquiring them. The other spec photography I do is Ocean and Sea Scapes.
I keep a portable Studio at the ready for Family and Senior Portraites
I have been published in the Local Surf Publications and the Local TV News here in Hawaii, not to mention the countless clients who have a Portraite or a Surfmoment hanging on their wall. |
